In today's world, observing how we treat one another often seems like it's all about me, me, me. What inspired me to write this was seeing headlines about a 19-year-old boy who will likely make it into the NBA. Just by being picked up, he automatically becomes an instant millionaire.
I don't know about you, but congratulations to the boy; he is obviously quite good at basketball. However, when so much money is paid to athletes for bouncing a ball on a court, it doesn't add up. Meanwhile, others can't even afford a meal and housing. Where is the balance?
Please, don't tell me that some people deserve what they get. Many have worked their backsides off for 40 or 50 years and still have little to show because of their meagre wages. They probably worked so hard to get what they have. So why does one boy become an instant millionaire just because he can bounce a ball and shoot a goal through a ring?
It's disheartening to see how the pursuit of wealth has overshadowed the values that truly matter in our society. The fact that many aspire for fame and fortune, neglecting compassion and kindness, is a clear sign of this shift. It's not about blaming a 19-year-old boy, but about questioning the societal structures that prioritize wealth over these crucial values.
While pointing fingers at the top of the tree to these parasites, I want us to look at what they do to us. The world is run by finance and greed. They want total control over us. We get jobs thinking we are doing the right thing and get paid a pittance compared to our true worth. All the while, the governments keep raising taxes upon taxes. Everything we eat and drink is taxed: fuel is taxed, housing is taxed, gambling is taxed—it’s all taxed. They buy up everything; they own the banks, the media, the governments—they’ve got the lot. Then, they let greed infiltrate bit by bit down the line. First, it goes to the governments, then filters down to the state governments, and then to your local governments.
So then, everywhere you turn, we are stung by some tax or fee. The price of food and drink keeps going up, rents keep going up, and buying a house keeps getting more expensive, while usually your wage stays the same, or you might get a small raise every year. Yet as soon as you get some increase, the supermarkets jump in, and greedy people jump in, putting more prices up again. The next thing you know, people—and I might add, with little children and the elderly—are out on the street with no shelter.
I have heard people talk, and someone in my family also said this. They told me, "No wonder he's got nothing; all he does is drink all the time." I nearly fell over, as here was this family member being a very big drinker himself. I thought, what a toxic person you turned out to be.
Let's not forget the fundamental rights of every human being: the right to food and shelter. It's a grave injustice that people of all ages are unable to afford these basic necessities while a 19-year-old boy can become an instant millionaire just for his athletic prowess. Everyone on this Planet deserves to have food and shelter.
I do not begrudge anyone anything if they get it in an honest way. However, many do not get the chance to attain what others have. I could be just as skilful or clever at the same or similar thing, but maybe because of bad luck, an injury, or even someone else sleeping with a boss, I might have missed out on some sporting prowess or a high, well-paid position in a company. Then where would I end up? Probably with not a lot.
Amidst the chaos of wealth disparity, all I yearn for is Love and Peace. I long to see these values permeate the world, replacing the greed and hate that seem to dominate. If you are financially well off or own a lot, I urge you to consider those who may be struggling. Small acts of kindness, done without expectation, can go a long way in restoring our faith in humanity.
When you cannot control what happens in the world, challenge yourself to control how you respond to what is happening. Be kind, help if you can, and if all that you can help with is Love, then do that,
With Love, Light and Blessings.
